Everyone has a little indulgence now and then, it’s part of life but it can really make you feel off balance so I’ve created 10 steps to help you get back on track in 24 hours and then continue to follow these steps to stay in balance.
- Get a good night’s sleep. You really need at least 8 hours after over-indulging as your body has more work to do to clean up! So give it the time it needs to do this work by resting.
- Take 1-2 Super Green Tea tablets available from Holland & Barrett and forgo all other caffeinated drinks. It gives you a little boost and the mental clarity you need to get through your day without the negative side effects associated with other stimulants. Decaf and herbal tea are fine.
- Drink lots of water. 2-3 litres is ideal to flush your body of excess waste and to optimise energy and fat burning.
- Get an exercise session in. At least 20 minutes of interval training and some weight bearing exercise to help boost metabolic rate, balance your blood sugar level and mood.
- Space meals out at least 3 hours apart to optimise digestion and choose wholesome, natural ingredients that are low in sugar, high in nutrients and don’t miss out any food groups.
- Be kind to yourself and try not to beat yourself up for yesterday. Focus on implementing your new regime and start as you mean to go on.
- Don’t worry about portion size. Just serve yourself the amount that feels right to you, not too little, not too much.
- Get another good night’s sleep and repeat the pattern tomorrow, adding a little variety to your meals, swapping proteins, fruit and veg around for optimal nutrition.
- Read, write in a journal or immerse yourself in any other productive task, other than sitting in front of the TV to keep your mind engaged in positivity.
- Example meal plan; porridge with berries, chicken and avocado salad with sweet potato, salmon with a big plate of green vegetables. Snack on a small handful of nuts and seeds or a piece of fresh fruit and a pot of bio live natural yoghurt. Include a couple of squares of 70% dark chocolate or a small glass of red wine at the end of the day. A little of what you fancy can actually keep you on track.
